How to choose a kids Paddle Board
Kids paddleboard choice has got much wider for 2022, with key brands really recognising the need for affordable and premium kids boards in very specific shapes that allow your son or daughter to paddle and enjoy performance ... just as much as you do...
kids boards and more information on width and thickness
Kids paddleboards are very much about width, thickness and premium quality. The width will allow your little ripper to gain a straight down paddle stroke at their shorter heights, the thickness will be 4.7” (5” thick) to allow a ride that’s not over volumes for their weight and the quality will be premium, so as they grow taller and heavier the board will still easily hold their weight.
For 2022 there are few key brands that are standing out from the rest, not only are they providing extremely well thought out board shapes AND in a budget that’s achievable ... they are also providing stock into the UK, so once researched and decided upon... You can actually purchase one...
The kid’s board for kids wanting an all-round shape
Let’s start with classic all-round board shapes, these kids paddleboards have a round nose and round tail to give lots of maneuverability and allow kids who want a really chilled-out ride, a great board, that will do everything an adult’s all-round board will do.
These kid's boards will critically be about 26" - 28" wide a NOT wider than 29" and will be made from 4'7" (5") thick high-density dropstitch to offer the right buoyancy and a straight down paddle stroke.
Kids boards for those that are wanting some speed
If your kid has got the paddleboard bug and is paddling longer distance, they will need a longer board to keep up with the rest of the paddleboard group, they will also need a width that's very specific to their needs, younger kids can go for a kid's specific board that is 26-28” wide in a touring or race shape or if they are coming up to teenage years and are taller look at boards for ‘lighter riders’.
All kids touring boards or touring boards for lighter riders will need to be 4.7” (5”) thick and NOT 6” thick as 6" thick dropstich creates too much buoyancy for kids and lighter riders.
